Qittle, a company that offers marketing solutions for small businesses, launched its text messaging marketing services today.
According to Qittle, text message marketing is a booming industry with unlimited potential for small businesses. Casey McConnell, The CEO of Qittle, said that within 15 minutes of sending out a text message to consumers, 95 percent of the subscribers will read the message.
According to a Pew Study, 50 percent of American adults use their mobile phones for non-voice data each day, which includes texting, email, and surfing the web. The study found that sending text messages remained the main activity for cell phone users.
Another survey conducted by Harris Interactive for The Center for Media Research reports 42 percent of 18 to 34-year-olds and 33 percent of 35 to 44-year-olds with mobile devices were interested in receiving text message alerts on their cell phones from their favorite places.
However, CTIA, a wireless industry trade group, reported only an 8.7 percent increase in text messages sent for the second half of 2010, which was a significantly smaller increase than in previous months.
According to the Wall Street Journal, companies like Apple, Google, and Blackberry are creating applications that could hurt text message campaign numbers even more. The applications bypass carriers and allow users to send messages over the internet to other users with the same devices. This affects the carriers who are struggling to keep up with the flexibility in communication the new applications give users.
