A recent survey of more than 500 IT managers at companies across the United States shows a growing concern for money over technology.
About 93 percent of IT managers say companies placed cost concerns over the best IT solutions, with 89 percent of those managers saying this lead to technology-related problems at work, according to the HP-sponsored survey.
The top problems reported by these concerned IT managers were low-performing hardware, out-of-date hardware and unreliable hardware. About 58 percent of the managers said the companies have not invested in a security network this year, with potentially greater security risks for the IT networks.
IT managers list their most wanted improvements as computer processing speed and reliability, the survey says.
According to the CDW IT Monitor from earlier this year, which polls more than 1,000 IT decision makers, 49 percent of small business planned on replacing or installing new hardware during the first half of 2011. About 61 percent said they planned on replacing or installing new software during the same period. Whether either of these happened for the first half of the year remains to be seen.
