The U.S. Postal Service recently announced it will relaunch its summertime promotion for direct mail pieces that incorporate two-dimensional barcodes. The promotion was successfully launched in 2011, giving marketers a 3 percent discount on standard and first-class letters, flats and cards. The USPS decided to relaunch the program after the first attempt created high return on investment for the postal service and its customers.
The mobile barcode promotion for 2012, however, will include new features developed after the postal service analyzed the results of last year's campaign. The goal of the promotion is to increase awareness of the value of direct mail, encourage marketers to try new campaigns using mail pieces and build a strategy for long-term success with print marketing, Direct Marketing News reported.
One organization that could likely benefit from the barcode promotion is the Humane Society of Berks County, Pennsylvania. The nonprofit organization regularly sends out direct mail appeals to the public and distributes printed material at community events and fundraisers to raise awareness of the cause and encourage donations from residents. Using direct mail and print marketing materials, the society collected more than $300,000 in donations in 2011 for its adoption facility, which houses birds, cats, dogs reptiles and other mammals, Berks-Mont News reported.
