South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard is using direct-mail postcards to bring business to the state. State officials say the effort has led to 50 prospects in a month, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The paper says Daugaard's face is on 143,000 postcards that say, "Tired of Taxes? Call me." Daugaard is pointing out the fact that South Dakota has lower taxes than Minnesota, California and Illinois.
"We want them to know that South Dakota is consistently rated as one of - if not the most - business-friendly states in the nation," Daugaard said.
Daugaard is supplementing his postcard campaign with radio and print advertisements.
Another marketing effort using postcards is being executed by the new Orange Regional Medical Center in Wallkill, New York, according to the Times Herald-Record.
The hospital is filling mailboxes with direct mailers, including postcards and fliers written in both English and in Spanish. Copies of the hospital's magazine, "Your Health," were sent to approximately 200,000 homes and businesses, said the paper.
